2009 Turner School of Construction Mgmt

The Turner School of Construction Management is now accepting applications for the 2009 session. Since 1969, Turner has been providing construction industry training for minority and women business owners in the disciplines practiced in the construction industry.

This no-cost training program is uniquely designed to enhance the technical, administrative, and managerial skills of minority and women-owned businesses and demonstrate how to build capacity and a solid reputation for efficiently managing construction projects.

Selection Criteria:
§ The program is for minority and women-owned businesses
§ It is preferred that the business is certified by one of the state certification agencies
§ Businesses should be located within the Chicago metropolitan area and be in the construction industry for a minimum of two years

Location: The University of Chicago
Dates: Starting on June 23 and every Tuesday and Thursday through August 6, 2009
Time: 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Designed for those who need to implement the LEED for New Construction Rating System
on a project and for those preparing for the LEED AP exam. This course walks you
through the rating system using examples, case studies and exercises to reinforce
learning. Attendees should have a basic awareness of USGBC and the LEED for New
Construction Rating System before attending. The course provides sample questions
and discussion on what to expect on the LEED Professional Accreditation exam, but
does not guarantee a passing score.

Provides essential core knowledge that is fundamental to all LEED Rating Systems.
Supports those who are pursuing the LEED Green Associate and LEED AP candidates as
well as those who are involved in green building projects and need more than basic
understanding of LEED.

Learning Objectives:
o Identify the key components of the LEED Rating System.
o Discuss overall LEED Certification process.
o Describe the intents and associated concepts of each LEED credit category.
o Explain regulations, recognitions and incentives related to each credit category.
o Recognize successful LEED strategies and measurements.
o Prepare for the LEED Green Associate examination.

May 7th - Tour of the Sullivan Center

CoreNet's tour of of the Sullivan Center (the redevelopment of the landmark Carson Pirie Scott building) on Thursday May 7 at 5:30 PM CDT . if you haven't already, I strongly urge you to register as the developer, Joseph Freed, is really rolling out the red carpet for us, giving us a peek at spaces not normally accessible to the public. Here's the plan for the tour:
Meet at 5:30 PM in the lobby at the temporary entrance at 33 S. State Street.
Proceed to the first floor retail space on State Street.
Proceed to the Art Institute space on the 12th Floor to look at the new cornice from inside .
Return to the first floor to view the facades on the Wabash buildings and the ironwork at the Madison Street entrance.
Proceed at 6:15 PM to the Millennium Conference Room in the 4th Floor Jospeh Freed offices for PowerPoint presentation and discussion.
